Hairdressing Jobs in Session Styling!

Find Hairdressing Jobs in Exciting Editorial Work!
“Hairdressing Jobs”
Have you ever wondered how to land those hairdressing jobs on red carpet runways, photo shoots and fashion events? These are obviously not the type of hairdressing jobs the majority of hairdressers take on in their career. Nor are these the type of jobs that experienced, highly skilled hairdressers fall into! If you’re looking to hone your skills and find a new creative outlet in your work, consider hairdressing jobs in session styling and editorial work!
Recently, Cyndi asked this question:
I’ve been a hairdresser for over 8 years and I love the hair styling business. I’m looking for new ideas on monetizing my hairdressing skills. My business has been effected by the economy as thousands of others have and I’m trying to come up with new ways to use my skills. I’ve always been interested in fashion and wonder if anyone can tell me how to go about getting into styling hair for runway and photo shoot type of events?
Great question Cyndi
American Salon’s August 2009 issue published a featured article on Giovanni Giuntoli, a Redken session hairdresser, who created hairstyles at the fall/winter ’09 runway shows in New York City for bridal designers. Giovanni has also developed “Tearsheet,” which is a company that teaches hairdressers the skills it takes to create camera ready hairstyles and makeup.
At Tearsheet, they have created educational courses that simulate real photo shoots . . . a sort of red carpet hairstyling education. Taught in New York City, their 3 day courses are complete and limited to just 6 students allowing plenty of one-on-one skills training. Students work side by side with Giovanni and his team completing photo shoots with professional photographers, makeup artists and fashion hairdressers. “Most hairdressers haven’t experienced the dynamics of a shoot,” Giuntoli says. “Our courses teach both hairstyling and on-set behavior.”The student also receives their professional images which can be used to promote their work back at the salon.
Hairdressing jobs that allow you to work with runway and magazine models sounds like a fun way to build your portfolio and business! An additional perk with your education at Tearsheet is after graduating, they say you will have the opportunity to work on shoots with Giuntoli and become part of the “Tearsheet Artistic Team.” The team can work future events like NYC Fashion Week, NYC Bridal Fashion Week, to advertisements, magazines and advertisers look books. Interested? Check out their website.
