Curly Hair Types

If your hair type is curly, I would suggest you make the effort to find a hair stylist who is experienced in how to cut your specific type of curly hair. Make sure they’ve acquired the knowledge of just how your curly hair type reacts and how it changes from wet to dry.  It is a special skill but, you probably know this all too well already. Get an experienced stylist that loves what they do and you’ll be forever grateful. A haircut that is layered right for your type of curl, will be easy to manage and will require minimal shaping on your part.

TWO TYPES OF CURLY HAIR

Corkscrew or ringlet type curls like Nicole Kidman

There are two types of curly hair.  If you have soft big loopy curls like Julia Roberts, your hair has lots of body and is easy to style by making it curly or straight. If your hair is healthy, it has lots of elasticity and the curls are well defined.

The other type of curly hair is a tighter corkscrew to ringlet type curl, like Nicole Kidman’s. Your hair type is also able to be manipulated into straight styles and soft, loopy curls. With straightening serums, thermal active sprays, good conditioning products, you can achieve a variety of different hair styles. Both of these types of curly hair have lots and lots of body. Your hair tends to be soft by nature, which may be misleading because of its natural tendency to want to frizz. It also tends to be dry. The oil from the scalp doesn’t reach the ends, as it would need to travel around all those bends and curves to get there.

 ALL CURLY HAIR TYPES NEED A GOOD HAIR CARE REGIMEN

To keep your hair looking great, make sure it’s getting what it needs. Get into a good hair care regimen. You need to add moisture to your dry hair. You may only need to shampoo your scalp every three days or so, but a daily water shampoo can be one way to help add moisture to your hair. Some people with your hair type like the theory of the No shampoo-shampoo. I wrote an article a while back about the shocking results of a six week trial.

Use a moisturizing shampoo or shampoo for dry hair. Conditioning your hair is a must. Use a moisturizing conditioner each time you wash your hair, even after wetting down your hair in the shower. Also, get into the habit of doing a deep conditioning treatment at home maybe twice a month, or more if needed. It will add not only moisture, but much wanted shine and body to your hair.

Pay attention to how your hair is withstanding the hair styling techniques you choose to use and don’t over do it. Silicon products, when used right, are wonderful to give definition and shine to your curls.
