Hair Fix For Green Hair

Try a hair fix if summer has left you green!

Can you detect a tinge of green to your hair?  We’ve been seeing it in the salon lately  and here are some hair fix recommendations to get rid of that unwanted hue!

“Hair Fix for
Green Hair”
Swimming in a pool regularly can damage hair strands. This damage can include a slight greenish hue to hair because of the copper levels within the water. Blondes tend to suffer this green hair phenomenon most often. Brunette hair color often hides the green color because of their dark strands.

Hair Fix 1:  Rinse Hair with Water Prior to Swimming

You can prevent green hair a variety of ways. Easy green hair fix prevention includes rinsing your hair with fresh water prior to swimming. Your hair acts as a sponge and if it has already ‘soaked up’ fresh water, the offending chlorinated water will be less likely to get into your strands causing the green tint.

Hair Fix 2: Apply a Deep Conditioner

Another way to prevent green hair is to use a deep conditioner poolside. Deep conditioners can help forge a barrier against the water so that your hair doesn’t turn green. An added bonus of using a deep conditioner poolside is that when you are done swimming, your hair will be left in better condition!

Redken makes a great product line called Color Extend Sun. Within that line there is a product called Redken Color Extend Sun Sparkling Shield Leave-In Smoother For Sun-Exposed Hair that is specifically designed to put on before swimming. This product is a good hair fix as it not only protects your hair from the damage of the pool, but it also offers protection from the sun’s harmful rays.

Hair Fix 3:  The Right Shampoo

If you have already suffered the damages of the pool and your hair is currently looking a tinge green, you may be able to combat that with the right shampoo. There are a variety of shampoo options to help rid your hair of its green hue. Any clarifying shampoo should work to remove the mineral deposits, etc. that cause this hair problem.

There specialty ‘swimmers shampoos’ for this very purpose. Redken Color Extend Sun After-Sun Shampoo is designed to remove any mineral deposits from the hair after swimming. Some hair care products designed to remove the green hue from hair can be harsh, so I like this product best because it gently cleanses the hair.

Remember that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of hair fix, so maintain your hair’s health by using these prevention tips.
