A sunburned scalp is more than just a minor irritation. Sunburned scalp can damage the hair follicles and result in compromised hair health, too, says Rebecca Twig, M.D., a spokesperson for the American Academy of Dermatology. Keep from getting sunburned scalp by wearing a hat or a scarf or by pulling your hair back in a ponytail so the hair shields your part from the sun, You can also spray sunscreen on your part for protection. Already have sunburned scalp? Take an ant-inflarnmatory medication, like ibuprofen, to reduce redness and discomfort. Also, avoid hair dryers, sharp bristle brushes, and styling aids containing alcohol, all of which can irritate the scalp while it’s trying to heal. |
