Stuck in a hairstyle rut?

Barb Quinn Hairstylist

If You’ve Had the Same Hair Style For More Than 8 to 10 years . . . Change it!

You found your absolute BEST hair style ever, and you made up your mind, you will never change hair styles again. I venture to say it happens to a lot of us. But too much of a good thing with a hairstyle can work against you. If you look in the mirror and your hair style hasn’t changed for the last, oh, say, 8 to 10 years, you’re probably stuck in a hairstyle rut.Time slips by, you haven’t thought twice about your hairstyle because last time you looked, you had found it, the BEST hairstyle for you!

Then, one day you go to your class reunion and a fellow classmate says, “ You haven’t changed.” You say, “Well, thank you, I try to exercise and watch what I eat.” But, then it hits you . . . you haven’t changed! You are wearing the same hair style, or nearly the same hair style, you wore in high school.

I know you’re out there. I see you every week in my class “Finding the Right Hairstyle for You!”

So how do you take the leap then you say? It’s second nature to you now and you know how to do a quick styling and get out of the house in 15 minutes in the morning. Then there is the woman who says, “I have to keep my hair style this way, so I can put it up”. Now don’t get me wrong, I like being able to put my hair up for a change too, but a change does not have to mean a high maintenance.

Make little changes more often. A little change goes a long way in a new style and it’s clearly not so scary to do. A small change of how it’s layered can make the difference of a FASHIONABLE vs. an AGING or DATED look. Which will you choose? Then, don’t forget to ask your hairstylist to walk you through how they are styling your new hairdo or you will most likely go home and get it to look like your old look in no time. Do you need to use a new hair care product?

It may be helpful to remember, also, that if you make a small change, it grows back quickly. Barbers use to have a saying, “Do you know the difference of a good haircut from a bad haircut? . . . Two weeks!”

Well if it’s a small change each session — that’s true!

    1. Tamaira,
Sounds like you have beautiful hair. I would suggest making small changes at first, a little change will go a long way for you. I suggest you look at some hair magazines…http://visual-makeover.com/hairstyle-advice/hairstyle-magazineshere-is-what-you-should-be-reading/
Then find a good stylist…. go to my catagory “You and your hair stylist”
