Hair Colorists Get Their Own Social Networking Site

The hair styling industry has been slow to adopt to Internet technologies. Let’s face it ,the typical hair stylist like myself, is in this business to fit more with our artistic/people side, rather than the techie, propeller head side of business. So we come slowly to things that the world of the ‘Geeks’ were doing a decade ago. But, we are slowly adopting new technologies into our daily way of life.

An area of Internet technology that is catching on with our business, is in sharing our knowledge. Our industry has always had a big ego image, with some celebrity hair stylists asking hundreds of dollars a cut, but some of our most talented peers are working in Ma and Pa salons in places like Topeka and Biloxi. We now have an arena to share the knowledge, thanks to Redken!

Now, finally comes a chance for those hair stylists to share some of their time-honed skills in the hair coloring talent pool. Redken recently launched a social network site solely for hair color pros

The Redken site will include techniques and formulas using Shades EQ, and video features including interviews with top artists and professionals. They will also feature an upload area for hair colorists to post their own videos showcasing their expertise. Hair colorists are entered to win a free trip for two to New York City, to participate in a photo shoot with their favorite Redken hair artist. This will be used for an ad campaign, which will be featured in the January edtion of American Salon magazine.

    1. I ran across your article and thought it was pretty interesting. You are right that the industry has been slow to adopt technology but it has helped so many others. There is a new online community for hair and skin, but it is for clients and industry professionals. It is called Myappointmentonly.com. I thought it was kind of related to your post.
