Shear Genius Episode 4

Shear Genius
Bad Soap Opera?

.

.

Is it just me or is this beginning to look like a bad soap opera?

This first challenge was bogus and the models end up as guinea pigs set up for the slaughter. I don’t get what the producers were thinking with this one. If you didn’t see it, or otherwise ended up wondering if you missed something, here is what it was. Each hair stylist had 1 1/2 hours to play musical chairs with their clients and they were to be judged on their creativity and technical skill of the overall style of the final client in their chair.

Shear Genius Loser
Meredith looses with the kool-aid red, not quite finished color.

Just can’t think what the judges were hoping to accomplish with this one. I wasn’t surprised to see at least one messed up color (Meredith’s kool-aid red) and lots of non-inspirational hair styles. Dee took the win, she did the best of the bad.

This poorly stimulating challenge was topped off with an even less stimulating night back at the house. I’ll just say I felt like I was watching a bunch of bad actors, who were told to improvise being jerky, spoiled, egotistical hair stylists.

The elimination challenge had much more to show us of the hair stylists ability to communicate with their client . . . a worthy endeavor wouldn’t you say? Communication with our hair stylist is key to our satisfaction!
This challenge was for the stylists to give their clients a great look that they could re-create at home. OK, that’s more like it.  Now the stylists has to do what a good hair stylist should do. They need to LISTEN to their client to understand what will fit with their lifestyle and styling abilities. Then they need to TEACH the styling techniques, including the tools and products needed to be able to recreate the look at home.

If I had a nickel for all the times I’ve heard  in my hair classes . . .” it looked great when I left the salon, but when I got home . . .”  This was a worthy challenge indeed!

Shear Genius Winner
Glenn wins with this look

Glenn wins this challenge by improving her clients hair color and style. The client was able to recreate the hair style Glenn gave her within the 30 minutes allotted.

Meredith is sent packing this episode.
