Quick and Easy Long Hair Updos

Long Hair Updo

Long hair updos are a great styling option

“Long Hair Updos for the Holidays”A lot of my clients don’t take the time to learn a few new twists that would, in the end, give them new looks with their hair. I think sometimes it’s just seems easier to do the same old, same old when styling your hair, but learning just one new updo can help save the day. Here are some quick and easy long hair updos that might just come in handy over the Holidays!

Long Hair Updos
Long Hair Updo #1

This is an easy long hair updo to wear straight from work or anywhere else that will transition well for a fun night out.

  1. Work with your natural texture and pull hair toward the back of your head.
  2. Create two sections of hair for ponytails (one on top of the other), then secure the bottom half of your hair into a low ponytail and leave the top part out.
  3. Split the bottom ponytail into two and tuck them under as if you were creating two buns and secure them by criss-crossing with bobby pins.
  4. Take the top part of hair that was left out and split into three sections, one on top and one on each side. Bring the top section back and secure with criss-crossed bobby pins at the base of the low ponytail.
  5. Twist each side back and secure those ends at the base of the ponytail with criss-crossed bobby pins as well.

With this organic looking style, it is ok to let hair fall out here and there and let the ends flip out here and there as well. This is an imperfect look, so please don’t try to get all the pieces perfected. Although it isn’t necessary, you can finish with a light hold hairspray.

Smooth, chic and a classic, this updo will work virtually anywhere! I love teaching this quick and easy updo to my clients. It is so stylish but is so easy to create. It looks much more intricate than it really is and it only takes seconds to do.

  1. Working with hair that is about 80% dry, run a lightweight gel throughout strands and comb through with a wide tooth comb.
  2. Pull all of hair back into a ponytail at the crown of your head (or slightly lower) using a soft bristled brush to create a sleek look.
  3. Secure hair into a ponytail and the wrap the hair from the ponytail clockwise around the hair band, tucking the ends out of sight and securing them with criss-crossed bobby pins.
  4. Spray the entire style with a hard hold hairspray to keep hair in place.

Even though this side ponytail is not really an updo, per se, it still works as something optional to wear. This is a stylish look that is so simple for anyone to do. Not to casual and not to dressy, the side ponytail is a perfect quick and easy change for your long hair looks.

  1. Tease the crown and top of your hair with a teasing comb, creating height and smooth over top layers.
  2. Pull your hair back and to the side of your head into a low ponytail. If you have side-swept bangs, I’d suggest wearing the ponytail on the opposite side of where you wear your bangs. Secure your hair into a ponytail using a hair band. Wear a decorative hair band or wrap a bit of your own hair around the band and secure with bobby pins.
  3. If you have bangs or fringe you’d like to leave out, style them as you wish.

For a dressier version of this style, you could curl your hair prior to styling. Updo’s are a quick and easy way to dress your hairstyle up and give yourself a break from your every day to day look. All you need to do is give yourself a little practice time and then when you really are pressed for time and in need of a style . . . bada bing, bada bang . . . you’re done!
