New hair ideas - Is the “Clawz” cut coming to your salon?

Don’t count me out when it comes to new and innovative hair ideas, I love ‘em!  And I guess something inside of me says “viva la difference” when it comes to Valentino Losauro, the Fort Meyers hairstylist who has taken Edward Scissorhands as his real life mentor!

Valentino looks like a veteran hairstylist to me who loves his business and has plenty of experience cutting hair. He certainly put his love of the artistic flare to work when putting together this new cutting technique. He has attracted national attention with his new invention and hair styling technique. Think Edward Scissorhands!!!

The clawz are razor blades attached to his fingertips in the shape of clawz. He designed the clawz after seeing a guitarist who played with metal guitar picks on his fingertips. And of course, Johnny Depp, as Edward Scissorhands, must have had some influence on this hair stylist, even though he says he is trying to break that association.

“The Clawz Yields New Hair Ideas”New hair ideas are what keep the world turning in our industry. But new and different doesn’t always mean better . . . sometimes it’s just different. Although Losauro says it just could be the future of cosmetology, I tend to think not (partially because of first hand knowledge that there are more hairstylists than you want to know, who would be absolutely deadly wielding the clawz!) I would caution you to ‘be very afraid’ if you get a surprise Edward Scissorhands, as your hair stylist.

Losauro’s age tells that he probably has lots of experience in cutting hair, so he knows what he’s cutting with those scissorhands and new hair ideas are what keep him vibrant and alive! I like the hairstyle above, he shows on his site in connection with the clawz. Apparently the Discovery Channel has contacted Losauro to feature him in special sometime soon.

Another word of caution, I don’t know if you’ve ever seen this, but I’ve never been comfortable with hairstylist’s who start to dance and clip the clients hair in rhythm to the music. Losauro says, “The customers, they dance. We just dance and the clawz go crazy and the client is shaking their heads.”  Hmmmm . . . . here’s the video
