This story will indeed give you a headache! Listen-up any of you gals with long hair. Although this is somewhat of a freak accident it’s not totally isolated and you wouldn’t want anything even remotely close to this happening to you or anyone you know!

“Long Hair Damage Warning”

When Dawn Tiatia decided to celebrate her daughters birthday by taking her go-carting at Fiesta Fun Park in Saint George, Utah she couldn’t have imagined the consequences.

On one hand it’s hard to believe this could happen. But I can imagine a busy Mom, wrapped up in the excitement of the moment, just forgetting she had long enough hair that could become a hazard. And then management of Fiesta Fun also had to undermine the obvious accident waiting to happen yet to another woman.

A large chunk of Dawn’s hair got caught in the drive shaft of the go-cart she was driving and it literally scalped her from ear to ear, above the eyebrows and above the hairline. She spent several days in the hospital where they successfully replaced the section that was ripped from her head. Reportedly she will still need to undergo about a half dozen surgeries and certainly a lot more pain to come.

The most bizarre thing of it is this isn’t an isolated event. Two years ago the Consumer Product Safety Commission issued a warning to riders to immediately stop using go-carts until they were fitted with covers. Before riding they advise to check if the go-cart has an axle cover, engine cover and chain cover. Also they advise women to wear hair nets and that no hair should come out from under the helmet.
