How To Get Hair Like Taylor Swift

How to do Your Hair like Taylor Swift

Taylor Swift, (with that beautiful head of long curly hair every gal envies) won both video of the year and female video of the year at the CMT Music Awards on Monday night.

“How to Curl Hair Like Taylor Swift”

Taylor Swift is just 19 years old, looks like a bohemian princess and has a voice to match . . . don’t you just hate her?

I didn’t r e a l l y mean that now, but some girls have all the luck. I mean like that naturally beautiful long curly blonde hair that looks just shy of perfect, and somehow effortless and wistful.

Back in the 70′s and 80′s, when spiral perms were the big thing, the long curly Taylor Swift hair is exactly what every long haired women wanted. The problem was that with long, spiral curly perms came frizz and sometimes uncontrollable volume. You’ve seen pictures . . . think Rosanna Rosanna Dana. And since we all want the Taylor Swift hair we haven’t got, salons were full of straight haired women paying their dues and trying to wrestle their hair into submission. If you have naturally straight hair you would be better to stay away from chemical treatments that try to take your hair to the opposite extreme.

If you have hair with some wave and body in it, you can get the Taylor Swift hair look. One easy fix is to invest in hair extensions. Hairuwear by Ken Pave’s and Jessica Simpson are hot right now. They are easy to put in and take out with just three clips, they look real and they are priced right. Price ranges from $45.00 for synthetic to $200.00 plus for real hair. If you want long soft cascading curls or long curly hair see how easy it is to do here.

If you have long wavy hair with body and are willing to do some hair styling, this method works great!

Use a volumizing shampoo and follow with a conditioner you like.

  • Spray a root lifter on roots and use a volumizing mouse, styling spray or gel if you like.
  • Blow-dry smoothing the cuticle
  • Mist with a thermal active spray
  • Starting at the nape, clip hair up dropping 1″ horizontal sections down at a time. Using a 1″ or 1 1/4″ barrel curling iron, wrap hair around barrel starting close to the scalp in a spiral motion leaving ends out to curl last. This will allow the hair to be curled evenly throughout its entire length.
  • Gently drop without pulling out the curl.
  • Mist curls lightly with finishing spray before dropping down next section to be curled.
  • Drop down sections repeating above till done.

Your ends shouldn’t be frizzy if you make sure to get them cleanly covered with your curling iron. But a light smoothing serum used by rubbing it into your palms and coaxing the ends down with your fingers will also do the trick.

  5. I get my hair permed. And then when the chemicals are all gone, I use a mousse by Tresemme (IDK if I spelled that right) then blow dry my hair. It looks almost like Taylor’s. I’m also blonde so it works out for me! Just a tip :)

  8. Hey,
I have my prom next week and I’m booked for a perm Tuesday. I’m going to go for a fairly loose one as I want as much length as possible. The reason I’m getting it for prom is because my hair is naturally pretty much straight, but looks awful! and curling tongs just do NOT work on my hair, the curls last only an hour so a perm is my only other choice. Good/bad idea? I really want this perm though!

  9. Pixie,
A semi-permanent color is easier on the hair than a permanent color. It will be a question whether it is strong enough to cover the gray or just tint the gray. I can’t say if a semi-permanent color will straighten your hair or not.

  10. I have a perm that I love: It is very curly. My hair is pin straight without a perm! The problem is my grey hair is showing. I am afraid that if I color it, The color will straighten it; That has happened in the past.
A good perm will last me a year without color! Is there any over the counter color I can buy that will nkot straighten my hair?

  11. I have long curly dark hair that looks basically the same at Taylor Swift’s natural hair. I’ve tried using a curling iron on it before doing the ends first and it always looked triangular and the roots stayed all crimpy. I tried it starting from the root and it’s perfect! thanks for the tip!

  12. hey, thanks Barb Quinn I think I may just do that . My hair is really easy to curl and I think that a perm may be the way to go even if it damages my hair. I just dont want those ugly tight curls from the eighties so I hope my stylist will be able to get my hair the way I want it . I think everything will turn out pretty good I’ll let you know how it goes !

  13. Angel,
Your hair type is touchy when it comes to perming and if you’re intent on wanting curls, my best suggestion is to book a consultation with the stylist who did the perm that turned out so well for your friend.
This stylist should be able to tell you if you’re hair should be able to get a similar effect.
    Good luck!

  14. hey, I have I guess you could say pin straight long hair that is not extremely thin or extremely thick, and I really want to have curly hair without having to put in exstenions because I am extremely active and would have to worry about them falling out all the time. I want to get a perm and lots of people say it’s the total WRONG way to go but two girls at my school have gotten it and one girl used to have really straight hair like me and it turned out really nicely. So I’m not sure if a perm would be the right way to go or not… any suggestions?

  15. Let’s not forget that Taylor swift has top notch hairstylists curling her hair. Her hair is not quite naturally like that. Look at the cover of her first album: That is her natural hair.

  16. I have really long and curly hair! BUT the fact is that my hair is really dry, frizzy, and it looks literally like a BUSH. It only looks really nice when it’s wet. But other than that, it looks like a puffy cotton. Somebody, help me with this.

  17. Great, except for the curly hair being popular in the 70s part. The 70s were all about long, straight hair.

  23. Alexis,
Sounds like your dilemma with hair curling easily one time and not so easy other times, would have to do with climate and your hair cut.
More layering allows hair to curl more easily as it lightens it up. The other obvious factor is humidity. Seasonal changes effects the amount of curl you will get naturally. Also note the products you are using. A lighter product, like mousse, or curl enhancers, are more condusive to creating good curls, than say a heavy gel.
Look at that before going into a perm, my guess is you probably don’t need a perm since you are able to get curls you like sometimes.

  25. I have naturaly curly hair but it is not as long as Taylors. Sometimes with out much styling my hair will turn out like Taylors, but sometimes it can take alot of styling to get it to look like that. Why is it like that? and would a perm make the curls turn out like hers more often?

    Comment by Alexis — March 3, 2009 @ 6:31 pm

  26. Thank you a ton!!! i never thought to curl the hair from the top instead of starting at the bottom. I tried your advice & my hair looks fabulous! Thank you!

  27. My hair is naturally curly and blonde. Its not as curly as taylors, and i want it naturally like hers. I want to get it permed but i don’t know how its gonna turn out. And how short its gonna be.

  28. i have hair almost exactly like Taylor Swifts except about an inch or two shorter and brown. IT IS SUCH A PAIN! i have this love/hate relationship with it. taking care of it is sometimes really hard, and my hair can get really frizzy. but it is really pretty if it cooperates!
