Hair Dryers, CBS Has a Great Piece on Buying The Right Hair Dryer
“Hair Dryers Video”

I recently had my hair dryer die on me and I had to go shopping for a new hair dryer. I posted an article about my experience and wrote this article “Does your hair dryer create great hairstyles?” about my experiences.

I discovered that the options we have when searching for new hair dryers covers a lot of ground and does not make for quick and easy decision making, even for someone like me who is a professional hairdresser. So when I watched this Hair dryer video from the CBS Early show, I jumped at the chance to share it with all of you. It is a very well done piece by David Evangelista, one of my favorites in the celebrity hairstyles business. Even if you aren’t currently in the market for a new hairdryer, it is well worth the watch. It is full of useful tips for creating celebrity hairstyle look- a-likes.

Buying The Right Hair Dryer
NEW YORK, Jan. 30, 2006

(CBS) If you’ve ever gone to the store in search of the perfect hair dryer, you may have found yourself overwhelmed by all the styles, shapes and sizes that line the shelves.

Evangelista says the first step is to become familiar with the different types of hair dryers so you can avoid buying something more elaborate and expensive than you need.

A few general ground rules:

  • Hair dryers with wattages above 1800 watts tend to work best (though there are exceptions, as you’ll see below)
  • Look for a hair dryer with multiple heat/speed settings (4-6 is pretty standard these days), and for a cool shot button to lock hair in place after it’s been heat styled
  • Make sure your hair dryer comes with a nozzle attachment, which will concentrate the air as you blow dry
