What haircolor for you?

Remember, “haircolor does not lift haircolor.”

Janieliza asks:

“I’m a pale skinned brunette with mostly white gray hair in front and lots of darker hair in my crown and back. I just used a beige drab toner for light ash brown on my previously ash blondish color and got something like burnt brown . . . Now I had intended to do something to lighten my hair in streaks, but this ugly haircolor is going to take another two weeks to fade to what it should have been. It is SO ugly that I want to change it to streaks NOW. Is it too soon? . . . 4 days. Should I wait another week?”

Sounds like your haircolor formula lacked warmth which resulted in an ashy, darker haircolor than you had originally intended. It doesn’t sound like this darker haircolor will lighten to the haircolor you thought you actually wanted. It will fade some but it will still have that ‘drab’ tone you indicated. And, if you streak your hair now, and it needs to be toned in order to get the haircolor you want on your new high lights, you will be adding another haircolor over your ashy burnt brown haircolor as well, which will darken it.

“Haircolor Does Not
Lift Haircolor”
A rule of thumb that is important to know and understand when using haircolor is, “color does not lift color.”

I suggest having a consult with a hair colorist who can actually see your hair. They may suggest a double process of lifting and toning and high lighting the front as you wished. This is a tricky process and I think it’s well worth the money to get it done right . . . especially now during the Holidays!!
Good Luck!

  2. Pam,
You can always try on some wigs for effect.
Suggestions include, whitening your white; auburn; brown with/honey blonde highlights.
