Some clients are easier to work with than others. I remember having a client named Liz for years. She would come in to see me every other day to have her hair styled, and every time she would say that something was not right. The shampoo smelled funny, or the products seemed different. She was a difficult client, but she was my difficult client.

Sometimes the people who make our lives harder are those who make us appreciate the people who make our lives easier.

Horrible article. So- hairdressers are in the back room gossiping about clients, or admittedly rolling their eyes when they find someone's name on their books... maybe this is just a sampling of the behaviours that keep cosmetologists esteemed in a somewhat lower tier of society.
If this is what happens at your work, and you are not a party to it, maybe you should work your way up into a classier setting.
And BAM if by kissing their butt, you mean being nice, not using foul language, not smoking before seeing your clients, and not talking to the next hairdresser about your adventures of the previous evening, or your current live-in boyfriend, then yes, you need to be fake, and pretend that you have some class. just saying!! But if that is not what you do, then I'm not sure what you are getting written up about. Another thing you may want to check is if you are obnoxious or rude. Those are other irritating personalities that would cause me to want to report someone.

I seem to be the hairstylist from hell lately. 98% of my clients like me, but every once I get a complaint which gets me written up. Right now I'm stuck at a chain salon, so write ups are like strikes in baseball. 3 and you're out.why is it, that it's soooo easy to get a complaint, when all I do is try my best to make sure they're happy? Am I too much of a pushover? Do I need to be fake with my clients and kiss more butt?

your blog about the client from hell is hillarious!!!Haven't we had one tooooo many of them. I love my job and i really do love my customers except those few hellish ones. I had a customer who LOVED her haircut and color came back a few times; loving it each time. Then she has failed to show up for her last 3 appts. after confirmation calls(her hair takes 2 hours; cut color and style;very long high-lift blonde)the last time she didn't show up was CHRISTMAS EVE....yes christmas eve and then got soooo annoyed when i had to cancel her appt. 2 weeks later because i had to stay home and take care of my son who was home from school sick!!!!! UGH!!!! Hellish clients..gotta luv 'em!!! :)

I agree with alot of the client from hell stuff you have been wrighting... but I just wanted to say I was not very impressed by the ‘less expensive’ Hairdresser comment. Where I am from I work in the cheepest salon in town. We are also the busyest and there are many times when I have to fix up a haircut that came from a more expensive salon. Just want other people to know that we all get the same training, its just what you do with it and if you go out and take classes to improve your skills that counts.
