Hair Trend That We Can do Without

Can we all agree that these folks are low-life’s?

Regular readers know that I am a fan of the European hair styling industry. Many new and exciting hair styles come from across the pond. It won’t be long and we’ll be seeing lots of press releases on the hot 2007 hair styles, and mark my words many of them will come from Europe.

“Ambulance chasers is a polite term compared to what I would call it”

But I guess not all European hair trends are worthy of passing along. From the I don’t believe it file comes this article from the UK. It seems that divorce lawyers are paying local hair stylists a bounty for referring any of their customers who complain about their marriage while sitting in the chair. Ambulance chasers is a polite term compared to what I would call this tactic, is it any wonder that attorneys are held in such low esteem.

Maybe culturally the relationship between a hair stylist and a customer is different in Europe, as it is inconceivable to me that this could work here. I have never known a hair stylist who would consider such a thing. Not that we don’t get the goods . . . we do! I have heard some really personal stuff. The bond between a client and their hair stylist is sacrosanct, its like talking to your Priest. Stylists know that passing along gossip is not only unprofessional, but very harmful to business. But to accept money for it would border on the criminal as far as I’m concernd. Anyway here is the article for what it is worth:

In Salisbury, England, a “firm of solicitors is offering hairdressers cash to refer customers who reveal that they have marital problems. But one hairdresser has criticised the idea as unethical and refuses to help.” The law firm of Trethowans says there is nothing in violation of Law Society rules in its offer of £75 to salon stylists who steer distraught spouses its way, the fee “payable when the courts grant a decree nisi or upon the agreement of a separation deed.” The law firm’s director describes the payments as “just a different sort of advertising” and says he has heard of firms in other geographic areas doing the same thing.
