Extortion in The Hair Salon

The Hair Salon in Your Neighborhood Could be Next

Lawyer jokes are pretty much well deserved. I have never been a big fan of lawyers, but this story had my blood boiling.

There has been a controversy about the hair salon price gender discrimination in the hair salon industry for years, about whether the hair salon should charge women the same price for a haircut as they do for their male counter parts. Which quite frankly is ridiculous. I’m a firm believer the hair salons should have a much wider variance how the hair salon pricing their services than they already do. For me the critical key is good communication about the hair salon pricing policy, so if the customer feels they are being overcharged for whatever reason they can vote with their feet.

“The Hair Salon Pricing Policy”

Back in the 90′s there were a few attempts to sue the hair salons, dry cleaners, airlines etc., etc based upon price discrimination. The cause almost always lost, but was expensive for the hair salon owner to defend. We’re talking bankruptcy in some instances. Judges began to take a dim view of attorneys who continued to bring suit despite lack of a precedent and were dismissing them as frivolous.

That is, until this slimy ambulance chaser from Manchester New Hampshire started threatening to sue a local hair salon for gender price discrimination. This guy had tried this before and had visions of a small Ma and Pa the hair salon being frightened out of their wits about being served a subpoena and needing to fork over a thousand dollars for a quiet, out of court settlement. But alas my hero, Claudia Lambert, owns Claudia’s Signature Salon, contacted the New Hampshire Attorney General’s office. The creep has been charged with extortion and is now out on $5,000 bail.

You Go Girl! I just love this story.
