Hi Diane,

Unfortunately, there is no easy solution to lighten your hair from orange to blonde once hair color has been applied. A hair lightener would be your only option to achieve the results that you are looking for, and the process is tricky and can cause unflattering results including excessive damage. If you have your heart set on the hair color that you choose, I suggest that you visit a beauty school to help you out. Students studying to become licensed hairdressers offer beauty services for a fraction of the price that salons charge. You can find a beauty school near you here.

Would you be happy with a medium to light brown hair color? You can achieve these results at home with the use of a toner or demi-permanent hair color. Learn all about these options with the fantastic article How to Fix Orange Hair Color Mistakes.

Good luck!

I had my hair colored and highlighted at a reputable salon however, my hair is WAY too orange. I called and went back in and they put a toner on my hair. It is still orange and I hate the color. Is there anything else I can do? Please help me!

Nicole,
A reputable colorist can help you out, or a reputable advanced school for professionalist. Not sure what they will decide to do, but they will be able to give you an educated answer.
Most importantly, don't try to fix it anymore yourself.
Good Luck!

Here's my problem. I dye my hair way too much. I dyed and highlighted it about 3 weeks ago to a brown with blonde highlights. I hated it. I am used to having multi-colored hair and couldn't handle it being normal. On top of that I have extremely hard water that likes to turn my hair orange. So last night I go to my friend's house and let her use a bleaching kit to turn the top of my hair blonde again. It didn't work. It turned it orange. So in my freaking out I sent my boyfriend to get blonde hair dye. He picked up Herbal Essences blonded by the light and we rinsed out the bleach and put this stuff in. While she was putting it in, my hair was falling out. A lot. I started getting nervous and we washed it out. My hair surprisingly still has a brassy tone to it despite my efforts. But I am scared to death to do anything else to it because I don't want it to fall out!! Can a salon fix my brassy orange head or should I just deal with it? My hair is already short so I can't cut it off anymore. HELP!
