Hair Care Tips-Best Shampoos For Straight Hair

For Straight Hair

Shampoo for Straight Hair

What is the best shampoo for straight hair?

If you have fine straight hair, do you really need a specific shampoo for your hair type? . . . Yes! The type of shampoo you use has a direct affect on the look, feel and condition of your hair as well as the condition of your scalp.

The key to getting the right shampoo for straight hair of yours, is finding one that works with your hair type and gives your hair what it needs right now, at this time.

“Shampoos For Straight Hair”

Women in my class Finding the Right Hairstyle for You! are always asking, “What hair styling products would you recommend for straight hair?” What shampoo and conditioner should I be using? If you’re happy with the condition of your hair, then don’t change a thing. If your hair just isn’t up to all it can be, start by changing your shampoo . . . conditioners will come next.

Some years back I read hair stylist Andre Walkers’ book, Andre Talks Hair. In it, he categorizes hair types better than anyone else I have ever read. He categorizes hair types into, straight, wavy, curly and kinky and then has sub-categories in each type i.e. fine, medium, coarse or whatever fits in the specific category. I’m going to use Andre’s categories, look for the one that best describes your hair type.

Straight hair has three sub-types, fine and thin, medium with lots of body and coarse resistant type hair.

For Straight Hair

  • Fine and Thin
    • For straight hair that is fine and thin tends to naturally lay flat to the head. Your hair has the most shine of all hair types, that’s the good news, but, it has a mind of its own and is the hardest to get it to do what you want.Your hair will look it’s best if shampooed daily. It’s naturally oily, use a shampoo that leaves your hair squeaky clean like, Aveda Rosemary Mint Shampoo. Use a gentle shampoo that’s formulated for oily hair or that is specified for daily use, like, Matrix Biolage Normalizing Shampoo. If you’re looking to get the most body into your hair that’s possible, which I know so many of you are, try shampooing daily with, Bumble and Bumble Thickening Shampoo, another favorite for your hair type.

For Straight Hair

  • Medium hair texture with body
    • For straight hair that is medium textured with body, can be shampooed either every day, or every other day with a gentle shampoo like, Aveda Rosemary Mint Shampoo, a favorite of mine for every day, and LOVE the smell!!!
    • If your hair is chemically treated, your hair needs moisture, use a shampoo like, Amplify by Matrix - Color XL Shampoo, which will add volume and moisturize to your hair.

For Straight Hair

  • Coarse and resistant
    • For straight hair that is coarse and resistant, tends to be thick and on the dry side. Your hair type will benefit from getting more moisture into the hair. Treat it with hair care products formulated for dry hair, like Bumble and bumble Gentle Shampoo, or more intense, Bumble and bumble Creme De Coco Shampoo which will soften your hair and give it more shine and body.

Additional considerations for straight hair

  • A clarifying shampoo can work wonders for all hair types, if there is hair styling product or color build-up on your hair. How do you know if there is hair care product build up on your hair? If your hair becomes dull and lifeless or feels coated and looses its shine. Everyone who uses any type of hair coloring or uses hair styling products can benefit from a clarifying shampoo periodically. Keep a bottle on hand for periodic use, it can work wonders! A clarifying shampoo is formulated to strip product build-up off the hair, that ordinary shampoos don’t reach. It will bring back shine and body to your hair! One I like is Bumble and bumble Sunday Shampoo, and that will work well for all hair types.
  • Remember your shampoo needs can change seasonally, so if your questioning if you should change your shampoo . . . you’re probably right. Don’t be afraid to give it a try.

    1. I received a sample of the “Made from Earth” Tea & Protein Herbal Shampoo from Sephora, when I bought another Made from Earth skin product. I couldn’t believe it when I tried it. It’s wonderful, it smells great (my boyfriend loved it), it got my hair really clean and left it soft and with some body, not limp and greasy feeling. I will only use Made from Earth products from now on, they really are the best for your health. Its cheaper to buy on the madefromearth.com website though, than actually going into sephora…I guess sephora raises their prices….
