Hair Care Product Shopping Takes a Diversion

“Hair Care Products are not Always What They Seem”Don’t be fooled when you see your favorite Salon only brand showing up on discounters such as Target, Walgreens, Safeway etc., not only are you likely to be getting a blackmarket product, but now comes a study indicating you might be overpaying for these products.

KNXV-TV in Phoenix recently did an investigative piece (includes video) on hair care products and has discovered that you’ll end up paying up to 50% more than buying the more reliable product at your local salon. 

Here is a list of the products they purchased at both discounter and a local salon.

  • Bumble and Bumble Seaweed Shampoo $18.99 vs. $16.50
  • Redken Color Extend Shampoo $15.69 vs. $11.50
  • Paul Mitchell Awapuhi Shampoo $12.99 vs. $10.00
  • Matrix Sleek Look Shampoo $17.99 vs. $13.95
  • Matrix Color Smart Shampoo $15.99 vs. $15.00
  • Bumble and Bumbel Creme De Coco Shampoo $23.99 vs. $23.00

The manufacturer’s of these products promise salons they will not sell their products to Non-Professional outlets. So if you see a salon only product anywhere other than a hair care salon, you cannot be assured you are getting the promised product, nor can you be assured the the ingredients have not been altered.
