Celebrity Hair Stylist Tells All

A Hollywood Hairdressers Incredible Story

Upper Cut, Highlights of my Hollywood Life, has the potential to be life changing for some!  Carrie White shares her remarkable life story in this straight-forward memoire that is heart wrenching, captivating, inspirational and telling of life in the fast lane of Hollywood celebrities in the 70′s.

From the get-go Upper Cut is one book you won’t want to put down.  Carrie white unfolds her life story of extremes; from a disastrous upbringing, to triumphing over all odds to reach her goal of becoming the ‘ first lady of hairdressing,’ to hitting bottom to choosing life!  The tone of her memoire makes you feel you know her intimately.

If you are a hair stylist, this book will touch your heart in a special way. Everyone in our industry knows this work gives us the opportunity to make connections with a variety of people from all walks of life. It’s an advantage this business holds. Carrie made connections with big movie stars, musicians, directors and fashion icons from behind the chair . . . and tells of her roller coaster life surrounding this environment.

Through the late 60′s and 70′s the ‘hair styling’ took on a new direction. Men’s hairstyles changed radically, offering shampoo/blow-dry styles and not just the traditional barbershop crew cut, flat top or pompadour.  And of course, the women’s hair styling and color market was always growing. The hair styling industry boomed!

In Hollywood at this time, some men became the first ‘icons’ of the hair industry.  Actresses’, wanted to be pampered, and coiffed and at times more, from these ‘pseudo hair gods.’  As these bigger than life hairdressers basked in their glory, Carrie stole the moment and their clients, by doing what she did best . . .  hair. Check out the movie “Shampoo” starring Warren Beatty, was based upon the real life stories of Carrie’s third husband, Richard. It depicts the life which Carrie worked so hard to break into.

Upper Cut, has all the drama and intrigue of any Hollywood Oscar-winning show and I think it can become a top-selling movie.  Carrie has an endearing quality and honesty in unveiling her personal story of working her way up from nothing to becoming one of the biggest names in Hollywood hairdressing, film and fashion.  She has a fascinating story to tell and her writing is captivating!

To drop just a few of the celebrities who became her clients; Mr. and Mrs. Elvis (Priscilla) Presley; Warren Beatty; Joan Crawford; Nancy Reagan; Elizabeth Taylor; Marlon Brando; Sharon Tate; Michael Crichton; Barbra Streisand; Bette Midler; Faye Dunaway; Ann-Margret; Diana Ross; Vanessa Redgrave; Mrs. Bob Dylan; Mrs. Miles Davis; Mrs. Johnny (Joanne & Joanna) Carson; Mrs. Frank (Nancy) Sinatra; Mrs.Bing (Kathryn) Crosby, Oprah; Sandra Bullock  . . . the list goes on.  (Oh, and did I mentioned she talks in the book of dating Jack Nicklson!)

Upper Cut is a great read to curl up this winter! It’s captivating and inspiring! George Hamilton says, “Upper Cut is the best written account of this town I have ever read. I know because I was there. I have read many other, and none compare.”
