Quick and Easy Long Hair Updos

Long Hair Updo

Long Hair Updo

Long hair updos are a great styling option

“Long Hair Updos for the Holidays”A lot of my clients don’t take the time to learn a few new twists that would, in the end, give them new looks with their hair. I think sometimes it’s just seems easier to do the same old, same old when styling your hair, but learning just one new updo can help save the day. Here are some quick and easy long hair updos that might just come in handy over the Holidays!

Long Hair Updos
Long Hair Updo #1

This is an easy long hair updo to wear straight from work or anywhere else that will transition well for a fun night out.

  1. Work with your natural texture and pull hair toward the back of your head.
  2. Create two sections of hair for ponytails (one on top of the other), then secure the bottom half of your hair into a low ponytail and leave the top part out.
  3. Split the bottom ponytail into two and tuck them under as if you were creating two buns and secure them by criss-crossing with bobby pins.
  4. Take the top part of hair that was left out and split into three sections, one on top and one on each side. Bring the top section back and secure with criss-crossed bobby pins at the base of the low ponytail.
  5. Twist each side back and secure those ends at the base of the ponytail with criss-crossed bobby pins as well.

With this organic looking style, it is ok to let hair fall out here and there and let the ends flip out here and there as well. This is an imperfect look, so please don’t try to get all the pieces perfected. Although it isn’t necessary, you can finish with a light hold hairspray.

Long Hair Updos
Long Hair Updo #2

Smooth, chic and a classic, this updo will work virtually anywhere! I love teaching this quick and easy updo to my clients. It is so stylish but is so easy to create. It looks much more intricate than it really is and it only takes seconds to do.

  1. Working with hair that is about 80% dry, run a lightweight gel throughout strands and comb through with a wide tooth comb.
  2. Pull all of hair back into a ponytail at the crown of your head (or slightly lower) using a soft bristled brush to create a sleek look.
  3. Secure hair into a ponytail and the wrap the hair from the ponytail clockwise around the hair band, tucking the ends out of sight and securing them with criss-crossed bobby pins.
  4. Spray the entire style with a hard hold hairspray to keep hair in place.

Long Hair Updo #3

Even though this side ponytail is not really an updo, per se, it still works as something optional to wear. This is a stylish look that is so simple for anyone to do. Not to casual and not to dressy, the side ponytail is a perfect quick and easy change for your long hair looks.

  1. Tease the crown and top of your hair with a teasing comb, creating height and smooth over top layers.
  2. Pull your hair back and to the side of your head into a low ponytail. If you have side-swept bangs, I’d suggest wearing the ponytail on the opposite side of where you wear your bangs. Secure your hair into a ponytail using a hair band. Wear a decorative hair band or wrap a bit of your own hair around the band and secure with bobby pins.
  3. If you have bangs or fringe you’d like to leave out, style them as you wish.

For a dressier version of this style, you could curl your hair prior to styling. Updo’s are a quick and easy way to dress your hairstyle up and give yourself a break from your every day to day look. All you need to do is give yourself a little practice time and then when you really are pressed for time and in need of a style . . . bada bing, bada bang . . . you’re done!

Hair Updos This Season — Think Accessories

“Hair Updos for Fall”Hair updos like Drew Barrymore is wearing at this event at Grey Gardens, Academy of TV Arts and Science in Hollywood, is both classy and casual! By adding a feather clip to her messy hair updo she creates a vintage flair to this hairstyle, which perfectly fit’s her character in this film. When choosing hair, earrings and any other accessories, keep your choices congruent with the fashion statement you want to make!

    Hair Updos — Double Headband

Have you gotten yourself a headband yet?  If not, better get to it!  So many styles to choose from with just as many ways to wear them! Love these hair updos with the double-band look because they’re so quick and easy to do and the look is so feminine and mysteriously nymph like!

To get this look, create some texture by using a hair styling mouse, like Sebastian Whipped Creme, and blow-dry with a round brush. Curl hair loosely using a large or medium barrel curling iron. Twist hair into a high loose, bun, letting some fall out. Using two headbands, push hair forward between the two bands to give lift and separation and use a finishing spray to hold.

    Hair Updos — Fall Favorite

Although the first impression of the hair updo seems to be dressy, this can be worn just as easy as an everyday look. Great for second day hair, this is brushed into a loose low side ponytail which you don’t pull the ends entirely through. Style front by creating wave with a curling iron and back-combing for lots of height, spray and go!

Hair Updos - Half Updos with loose waves

Kelly Ripa wears an easy half updo with elegance. This hair style has just gotten hotter and hotter and can be worn as easy with jeans as to an elegant soiree! Change it by sweeping the hair off the face and back-combing for height, while the length falls in unkempt waves. Catch the slicked back sides with a barrette and tuck the top underneath.

    Hair Updos
    Hair Updos — Braids

Hair updos with braids are endless! The key to this casual looking braid is starting the braid out low and letting sides fall out just a bit. It creates an easy but feminine look.

Updo Hairstyles are Messy this Summer!
    “Updo Hairstyles
    the Messy Look”

The hottest updo hairstyles for summer aren’t really updo hairstyles at all, but messy styles or undone looks that are simply pulled up and off your neck and shoulders. The great thing about this summers updo hairstyles, is that you can turn a more casual hairstyle into something that looks elegant and chic or messy and undone! Here are some of my favorite messy updo hairstyles that you can style easily at home:

    Updo Hairstyles
Vanessa Hudgens Curly Summer Updo Hairstyles Look

Updo hairstyles like this one Vanessa Hudgens of “High School Musical” wears is quick and easy for summer hair. If you’ve got naturally curly hair, or wavy hair, now is the time to give your flat-iron a rest. Updo hairstyles like this one suggests working with your hair instead of fighting it.

To bring out the curl in your hairstyle, apply a styling cream or gel throughout damp hair and then comb through with a wide tooth comb. Then, you can scrunch and twist strands into beautiful bouncy curls. Pull the front section of your hair back and pin right at the front of your crown, then pull the rest of your hair up into a ponytail. You can pin sections of your hair up and around the base of the ponytail, giving this updo hairstyle, great dimension.

Messy Updo Hairstyle on Jennifer Lopez

Updo Hairstyles Like Jennifer’s is Messy Yet Elegant! Jennifer Lopez, always in fashion has also jumped on the messy updo hairstyle bandwagon. Her version of the messy updo hairstyle is great for all hair types.

If you want this look, start with clean, dry hair. Section your hair into three parts: a horizontal section from temple to temple, another horizontal section from the ear to ear and then a third section with the rest. Pull each section back one at a time and secure each one with criss-crossed bobby pins. Let your shorter pieces fall out naturally because this look is very relaxed and casual.

Updo Hairstyle on Sarah Michelle Gellar

I love Sarah Michelle Gellar’s take on this summer’s updo hairstyles trend. Her version is very laid back, but the headband gives it a stylish spin. Headbands and hair accessories are hot this season, so pairing a headband with your messy summer updo hairstyle look is even hotter! This is a super easy style to pull off, simply pull your hair back into a bun at the crown of your head and slip on a headband to get this look. I recently wore this look on my way out to run errands and got so many compliments on it. What’s best is that the hairstyle took less than sixty seconds to style!

All three of these messy summer updo hairstyles reflect the time of the season and are great to try out this summer. If you’re looking for the quickest and easiest in updo hairstyles, I highly recommend Sarah Michelle Gellar’s look, it is the most simple  to do and looks great on just about everyone.
