Bridesmaid Hairstyles

“Bridesmaid Hairstyles”Bridesmaid hairstyles can’t be forgotten in my wedding hair series, so I am dedicating this article completely to bridesmaids. Personally, I am a fan of casual bridesmaid hairstyles. Keeping the bridesmaid hairstyles more subdued, is just one more way to give the bride more of the spotlight on her big day. I prefer for the bride to stand out as much as possible, whether it comes to dresses, hairstyles or anything to do with the wedding. However, I understand there are probably too many options out there to choose from, so here are some of my suggestions for bridesmaid hairstyles!

Bridesmaid Hairstyles
Bridesmaid Hairstyles - Sleek and Simple Up  Dos

Sleek and simple bridesmaid hairstyles, worn in classy updos, is a great choice for a formal event. You can choose to do different updo hairstyle for each bridesmaid, or you can opt to have all of your attendants wearing the same bridesmaid hairstyle, which is really a classy look! With a formal event, I would strongly suggest hiring a professional hairdresser to do the bridesmaid hairstyles, since most, if not all the bridesmaids will not know how to style their hair this way.

Bridesmaid  Hairstyles -  Half Updos

I love this hairstyle for bridesmaids because it looks attractive on most everybody and  doesn’t require everyone to have the same length of hair. You can wear just a bit of hair up, if you have very short strands, or you can put more up if your hair is longer. Perfect for showing off a bridesmaid dress with a great neckline, this bridesmaid hairstyle is contemporary and will work for just about everyone and just about any dress.

Bridesmaid Hairstyles
Bridesmaid Hairstyles – The Side Pony

One of my favorite bridesmaid hairstyles is a side ponytail. The side ponytail is so versatile because it can be worn sleek and smooth for a formal event or it can be styled full of volume and body for a more laid back affair. You can also add accessories such as fresh flowers, or something sparkly, to spice up the bridesmaid hairstyle even more. This hairstyle is also easy on the budget because most women with long enough hair to do this, can easily style their hair into a side ponytail.

Remember to match your bridesmaid hairstyles, with the tone of the event, just as you would coordinate any other part of the wedding. A formal event calls for formal hairstyles and it follows, a casual event calls for equally laid-back bridesmaid hairstyles.

Updo Hairstyles at 2009 CMT Music Awards

    Updo Hairstyles Taylor Swift

    Updo Hairstyles Taylor Swift

Updo hairstyles like Taylor Swift’s – quick and easy!

Updo hairstyles like Taylor Swift’s was smashing for this years CMT Music Awards show. She stayed true to her curly hairstyle with her side swept updo hairstyle. Her side swept updo hairstyle is easy to copy, especially if you have curly hair!

If your hair needs some help curling, you’ll want to first curl your hair all over with a small barrel curling iron. This hairstyle is so simple to do, just gather all your curly hair into a low side ponytail and secure with an elastic hair band, leaving a few strands out toward the front. Then simply pin up large sections of your hair up into the base of your ponytail.

My secret hair stylist trick is to criss-cross two bobby pins to keep the hair more secure in its place. Take the front strands of hair you left out and twist or twirl them toward the back of your hair and secure those with criss-crossed bobby pins too.

If you feel you need a hairspray to keep your look lasting through the night, I’d suggest one like Matrix Color Smart Gloss and Guard Hairspray.  This hairspray will help guard your hair against humidity (a plus for girls with curls) and it  gives updo hairstyles added shine, which Taylor Swift could use a little more of in my opinion.

    Updo Hairstyles Julianne Hough
Updo hairstyles like Julianne Hough’s – casual and relaxed!

Julianne Hough has gone country and so can you with hot updo hairstyles like this. I love this teased blonde hairstyle because it shows off Julianne’s country side, but the casual way the back is pulled away from her face gives this look a much more relaxed vibe.
Get this hairstyle by using hot rollers to first curl your hair. Remove hair from hot rollers after they’ve completely cooled and then tease hair in small sections working from the back. Smooth the top strands of hair with a soft bristled brush and then gather hair into a soft ponytail in the back of your head.

Secure the ponytail with a smooth elastic and then you can grab small sections and bend them under and over, creating a bun-like appearance like Julianne’s, or you can simply leave the ponytail as is for a less formal look. Allow strands of hair to fall around your face and then spray the entire style with a hard hold hairspray. Big Sexy Hair Spray and Play Harder Hairspray, is perfect to hold country girl updo hairstyles like this one.

    Updo Hairstyles Jennifer Nettles
Updo hairstyles like Jennifer Nettles – Pompadour Texas big hair!

Sugarland singer Jennifer Nettles, showed us what stylish, pompadour, updo hairstyles look like! This hairstyle gives a fun new look to the typical ‘Texas big hair’ look.
To create twisted updo hairstyles like this one, leave a good amount of hair out in front and pull the rest of your hair straight back into a ponytail that reaches the crown of your head.

I can’t quite tell from her pictures if she has a ponytail or messy bun, but I prefer a ponytail for this look.  Next, curl the hair that you left out in front with a medium barrel curling iron and keep it in a curled position until cooled. Then, backcomb the base of your hair and pull hair toward the back of your head.

Make sure not to pull your hair to tight, you want this section to be full of body and volume. If your hair is short enough, you may be able to get away with just spraying this section with Big Sexy Hair Spray and Play Harder Hairspray, but if your hair is on the longer side, you’ll have to secure the ends with bobby pins. Either way, spray that piece into place with additional hairspray.

    Wedding Hairstyles for Short Hair

    Short Wedding Hairstyles

    Short Wedding Hairstyles

    “Short Wedding Hairstyles”With all this wedding hairstyles talk, I’d like to take a moment to discuss short wedding hairstyles. Don’t want long, cascading locks for your wedding day? It’s not a problem, because there are a variety of options for short wedding hairstyles too! There are a variety of reasons you may not have long hair for your wedding;

    • 1) you may not have the time to grow out your hair
    • 2) you don’t want to pay for pricey extensions or
    • 3) you love your short hair and want to work with it on your wedding day. All of these reasons plus some have led me to be creative when it comes to short wedding hairstyles.

    Stunning short wedding hairstyle

I love creating faux up-dos for short wedding hairstyles. You can create this look by setting hair in large Velcro rollers and then pulling hair up and off face toward the back of your head. Keep key pieces in place by using bobby pins and a hard hold hairspray like Kenra’s Platinum Finishing Spray. Add accessories like fresh flowers or a decorative hair piece in the back to conceal where you are pinning the short strands at.

If you are wearing a veil during the ceremony and throughout the reception, you don’t have to add any accessories in the back because your veil will cover that. This is the perfect style for the bride who really wanted to grow her hair out for an up-do but didn’t have time.

    Short Wedding Hairstyles
Spice up your short wedding hairstyle

My advice for brides that don’t want to wear a veil is to accessorize, accessorize, accessorize. You can definitely dress up your short wedding hairstyles with simple accessories that differentiate this hairstyle from your everyday style. One of my favorite short wedding hairstyle accessories is the headband. I love these sparkly, elaborate headbands made just for brides. This definitely says ‘wedding hairstyle’ and gives you the option of a DIY short hairstyle. You can style your hair normally, slip on your headband and voila…your wedding hairstyle is done in less than 10 minutes!

Other accessories you may want to try are hair pins that have Swarovski crystals or other sparkly jewels on them. And if you want something that is super stylish and chic right now, try a feathered accessory to complete your short wedding hairstyle. You can don a feather headband or a pin with feathers on it too.

    Short Wedding Hairstyles

Obviously I am a huge fan of accessories for short wedding hairstyles, especially those that sparkle and shine, but there are other things you can do to make your short hair stand out on your wedding day too. Highlighting your hair is a great way to brighten your complexion (giving you that bridal glow) and giving dimension to your hair. If you haven’t highlighted your hair before, I’d suggest doing something subtle to start out with. And if you currently highlight your hair, try adding in a few lowlights for additional dimension and contrast.

Short wedding hairstyles are just as versatile as long wedding hairstyles, so don’t feel that you absolutely have to grow out your hair for your wedding. There are plenty of options for brides with short strands too. Experiment with different hair accessories and ways to style your short hair to make the most of your short wedding hairstyle.
