Woman Pulls Bus With Hair!!

I saw this in today’s news and couldn’t resist passing it along. I’m kind of wondering, what was she thinking? Does anyone else get one big, hulking headache, just picturing this?  However, she seems to be a determined young soul who must do what destiny begs of her to do. She is an Indian woman, who by nature is blessed with beautiful thick hair, but that still would not be reason enough, for most of us, to come to the conclusion that this is what we could do with it!

This got me thinking . . . every generation makes it’s own mark in the world of evolving hair. I figure, this woman must be working on just another alternative for the energy crisis we find ourselves in today! Who are we to say what this could evolve into? Just look at the effect some generations of the past have contributed to our hair trend history time-line.

• 500 B.C. in western Africa, sticks and clay are used as early versions of curlers and setting gel. The end result resembled dreadlocks.
• First century A.D.— Dark hair is fashionable among Romans, who create a dye from boiled walnuts and leeks.
• 1300’s — European women conditioned their hair with dead lizards boiled in olive oil.
• 1500’s — French women frizz their hair with heat, then sculpt it to towering heights.
• 1550 — “Blonding” becomes popular. One recipe for lightening hair calls for a mixture of honey, celandine roots, olive madder, white wine, cumin seed oil, box shavings and saffron. This was left on the hair for 24 hours then, washed off with lye and ashes.
• 1780’s — In France, long before the advent of punk, hair is powdered in blue, violet, white, pink and yellow pastels.
• 1860’s — Clip-on hair pieces come into fashion.
• 1905 — Charles Nestle creates the first permanent wave machine.
• 1920 — History records first hair dryer, inspired by the vacuum-cleaner hose.
• 1934 — “Dry cleaning” becomes a time saving alternative to shampooing. The two best-known “dry-cleaners” on the market are found to be highly flammable and toxic. One woman becomes disfigured when her “dry” shampoo explodes.
• 1971 — The first hand held blow dryer makes a new range of “blow and go” styles possible.
• 1975 — Endless variations on Afrocentric braids (cornrows) are widely embraced.
• 1988 — Sinead O’Connor’s shaved head starts a trend among rebellious young women.

    False Eyelash Extensions

    False Eyelashes or Eyelash Extensions?
    by Saleemah Staten

Do you know the difference between false eyelashes and eyelash extensions and how to determine which is best for you?

False eyelashes and eyelash extensions are the latest beauty obsession worn by celebrities such as Maria Shriver, Beyonce, Star Jones, Ivana Trump and Khloe Kardashian. And now that this trend has become more popular and affordable, every woman seems to be craving the look of longer, fuller eyelashes.

“False Eyelash Extension”Eyelashes add volume, length, and makes the eye appear larger and more defined. Unfortunately not everyone was born with them. But thankfully the beauty industry has created a solution, and if applied correctly, no one will ever guess they’re not yours. False eyelashes and eyelash extensions can be worn for special occasions or everyday for a natural look and feel.

False eyelashes (a strip of eyelashes) can be applied for a temporary, quick and glamorous look. Sephora’s “Flirt-It Lash Duo, softly enhances your natural eyelashes, while adding volume and length. This product retails for about $8. and is great because it includes several lengths of lashes to choose from, as opposed to one full strip. MAC Cosmetics also makes several popular false eyelashes, which come in a variety of shapes, lengths and densities, and retails for about $20.

Flare eyelashes are clusters, consisting of several strands of hair. They are available in short, medium and long lengths and can be applied in specific areas for a detailed look. Ardell’s Duralash Naturals retails for about $3. in most beauty supply stores and Shu Uemura’s Individual Flare Eyelashes($16.) can be found in Neiman Marcus and Bergdorf Goodman Stores. Flare eyelashes can be put on by an experienced person, but is recommended to be applied by a professional, as it can be a tedious process.

Eyelash extensions is a cosmetic procedure that consists of bonding natural and/or synthetic fibers to each one of your natural eyelashes with a special adhesive. This is a semi-permanent procedure that lasts for the life of your eyelash (eyelashes normally shed about every 90 days) and starts at about $250. This procedure is painless, and the results are natural, longer, fuller eyelashes you can swim and shower with. Clients are required to return for fill-in services, which can costs between $50.-$250. This procedure should be done by a certified technician only, as the use of utensils and material can be harmful if not applied properly. Extreme Lashes and Lavish Lashes are popular companies who train professionals to perform the service.

When deciding which procedure is best for you, one should consider your lifestyle and the look you are trying to create. If you are going out for a special occasion and do not intend to wear the eyelashes past that day, strip eyelashes are perfect. If you want your eyelashes to lasts longer (perhaps for a weekend getaway) and don’t want to fuss with make-up too much, cluster eyelashes will do the job. And for those who want a more permanent look, without altering your lifestyle, eyelash extensions are the way to go.

Bad Hair Days Study Concludes it Affects More Than Your Appearance

    “Bad Hair
    Days Study”
A bad hair day study from Yale University showed that a diminished appearance affected self-image and actually led to impaired test performance from its participants. In other words, if you’re uncomfortable with your looks, it might make you feel insecure about yourself, which can actually lead to more serious consequences than just a bad hair day.

According to the report, the perception of bad hair leads to reduced sense of performance and Self-esteem. Just the thought of a bad hair day caused women to feel they are not as smart as others. Other findings were that bad hair intensifies feelings of social insecurity and self-consciousness. Evidence shows that bad hair causes women to be more negative about themselves. Specifically, that a bad hair day leads  women to find more personal flaws that go beyond their looks.

The study was directed by Dr. Marianne LaFrance, Professor of Psychology at Yale University. It was commissioned by the team Launching Physique hair care by Procter & Gamble.

The good news: A change in hair style and hair color can perk up your spirits, much like smiling during a bout of the blues, which has been proven to actually improve your mood! So, try a red hair color to light a fire within you, or add some bouncy curls to puts spring in your step.

Lift up limp hair and spirits with layers for volume and swing, soften up a stem exterior with warm, golden highlights or cut that man right out of your hair with a cool crop. Changing your hair color and hair style may just change your life!
