British Hairdresser Awards 2008

Hairdresser Awards
Akin Konizi British Hairdresser
of the Year 2008

These Hair Styles Are One Of A Kind !!

A recent comment from a reader on a post I did a year ago, spurred my ailing memory of the astonishing British Hairdressing Awards. Last year I wrote a piece about the, Black Hair Styles winner, Errol Douglas and showed his incredible hair style creations here;
“Hairdresser of the Year Awards”
The 2008 British Hairdressing Awards ceremonies were held in London at the end of November. It’s a huge event which is presented by Hairdressers Journal International and sponsored by Schwarzkoph Professional the hair care product company.

This competition is different from others in that all competitors are judged from photographic entries. And, the best thing of all is that any hairdresser from the UK can enter the competition and will be judged on equal ground with top professionals in the industry. An independent panel judges the anonymous entries.

There are 16 categories in which the Brits can choose to create and submit their master pieces. Some categories are for regional recognition and others include, Avant Garde, Artistic Team, Afro American, Newcomers, Men’s, Hair Colour and more. Hairdressers work for months perfecting their new creations. This is where the next new experimental concepts in hair styles are birthed!!

British hairdressers are renowned for their mastery of the art of hairdressing. The most coveted prize is to be named, “British Hairdresser of the Year.”  This year the award went to Akin Konizi, of Hop Salons. Although this year was the 24th annual awards, only 14 people have won that title. Past recipients include, Trevor Sorbie, Anthony Mascolo, John Frieda and Antoinette Beenders to name just a few.

Some of these hair styles may bring to mind Star Trek , where no man has gone before . . . but, fear not!! I like the way Rudolph says it, “Creative thinking may mean simply the realization that there is no particular virtue in doing things the way they have always been done.”

Here are a few of my favorites this year!! Heavy fringe (bangs) seems to be showing up a lot!  To see more go here; http://www.hji.co.uk/blogs/main/2008/11/british-hairdressing-awards-20-2.html
