Aveda Gives Back for Earth Month
Aveda Hair Products gives back focusing on clean water issues
Hat’s off to Aveda products for raising $14 million over the last 10 years and touching the lives of tens of thousands of families worldwide! Aveda Corporation had its beginning right here in my backyard, Blaine, Minnesota. It was founded by Horst Rechelbacher in 1978. Horst was the first in the U.S. in the hair products business to introduce botanicals and aromatherapy to hair products. He learned of the healing properties of organic botanicals in India (Ayurveda) and brought that vision to fruition with Aveda Corporation.
Horst sold his company in 1997 for a mere $300 million and it is now part of Estee Lauder Companies, Inc. Since 1999 Aveda has been on a mission to inspire action and raise awareness about clean water issues. Over the last 3 years they have focused on raising money to:
• Award grants to more than 600 communities in 20 countries
• Clean up toxic contamination in more than 70 rivers and watersheds around the world
• Convert 2,500 acres into sustainable, organic farms
• Train and empower 9,500 women to be activists for clean water in their communities
• Support more than 20 local and regional organizations that protect clean waterways.
Besides supporting Aveda salons and hair products consider purchasing an Aveda Light the Way Lavender Candle for the cause. This product purchase gives 100% of the proceeds for the cause. Here are the reported results to date;
Your Light The Way candle purchases and donations since 2007 have touched the lives of 25,000 families worldwide by helping Global Greengrants fund water projects like these: training 3,500 people in sustainable and organic agriculture methods; helping 20 communities carry out local water resource management plans; enabling 100 communities to take action against toxic industrial pollution and hundreds of other projects that have helped protect water rights and water access around the world.
Great Candle
The Light the Way Candles are a great bargain. I absolutely love the lavender fragrance and that they are made of soy wax. The glass container is a recycled bottle, and the box is recycled packaging. In our “throw away” society it is encouraging to see that efforts are being made to reuse materials. The best part of it all is that someone will have clean, safe water as a result of all purchases.”
Buy a 2010 earth month t-shirt and all proceeds go for the cause.
Protect clean water in style. Wear the limited edition t-shirt proudly to celebrate—and benefit—Earth Month 2010. 100% organic cotton t-shirt grown and sewn in the USA, because organic farming reduces agricultural water pollution, keeping our waterways free of chemicals and pesticides.
