Ways to Curl Hair, Here are some options

Woman Curling Her Hair With a Curling Iron

How to Curl Hair

The vagaries of trends, styles and fashions dictates whether curly hair is desirable or straight hair is thought of as more attractive. Hair styling is a complex mixture of processes – cutting, coloring, straightening, curling, weaving, texturing, relaxing and a host of other procedures and treatments to enhance the looks and also improve hair quality and stop hair loss. Hair done into braids, up-dos, and aggressive styles and the use of accessories is can leave even the healthiest of hair begging for mercy.

Hair curling has always been a desirable option for women with straight hair, particularly when hair styles and trends have dictated big, poufy hair, ringlets, spiral curls, or the desire by some who find straight hair dull and boring, so there will always be a demand for hair curling procedures, both temporary and permanent.

Curlers

The humble hair curler or roller sported by the sleepy matron in her night-gown, frequently portrayed by the media, was one of the most common and popular methods of curling hair to get the desired coifed look. Simple rollers or heated rollers can be used to achieve the desired coiffure.

Curling Irons

Curling irons or tongs create waves or curls in the hair. The diameter of the curling iron may vary to give you the desired effect. The shapes also differ – cones, cylinders, reverse cones, there can be brush attachments, and more multiple barrels as well.

A smaller diameter will give you spiral curls or ringlets whereas a bigger diameter curling iron will give you bolder curls or waves. These can also add bounce and volume to hair that is otherwise fine or thin. Different materials such as ceramic, Teflon, metal, tourmaline, titanium are used for the manufacture of the curling irons and typically each has its own plus and negative points.

A Perm

As early as the late 1940′s the cold wave procedure called the ‘cold wave’ was developed by Arnold F Willatt, which required the hair to be wrapped in rods after which a reduction lotion containing ammonium thioglycolate was used on the hair. Later in the 70’s acid perms were brought to market.

In the late 70′s and 80′s when big hair was quite popular, perming really came into its own. The term ‘Perm’ comes from ‘Permanent Wave’. The usual perming process involves two processes – firstly the actual wrapping of the hair on to rods and the use of end papers. Then is the chemical phase that alters the chemical bonds present in the hair.

The Digital Perm

This method of perming is particularly popular among Asian populations. It uses hot rods that have their temperature controlled by a machine and digitally displayed. The digital perm requires not only the chemical solution to be applied to the hair, but also the heating process. The shape and the texture of the perm is different with a digital perm and the hair appears different when wet as well. This procedure is also called a cold perm.

Grooming for Men from the Ladies Perspective

A soft tousled mens hairstyle look

Grooming services for men a boon . . . the ladies say ‘Aye!’

We admit it guys, our posts regarding ‘grooming for men,‘ have been pretty sparse (still informative) over the years, but the truth is the ladies haven’t had much rivalry from the opposite sex in regards to the subject of grooming . . . until now that is.

While doing some research for an article I happened upon some information on mens hair that got me thinking about what is happening that is long overdue. Grooming services for men are reaching new heights and more and more hair dressing salons, manufacturers and hair stylists are turning their attention towards the guys.  Why?  It’s simple . . . women aren’t the only ones who like pampering . . . men want to look and feel better too!  Men may also be feeling the pressure to keep up appearances as the job market crisis looms. Hairdresser salons are helping men to look younger and fresher which in turn sets one up for more success.

The macho-macho man image is evolving into a new paradigm of potentialities. Bieber fever, Clooney wanna-be’s, Pitt passion and even some vampires are being emulated as to what the modern man looks like.  And, the proof is that men are clearly making their vote for their fashion enthusiasm at hair salons with their pocketbooks!

Just a few years back, the term “metrosexual” was coined to describe a man who was flaunting his style from head to toe and unfortunately the term loosely carried a critical connotation to it. Have you noticed this term has literally dropped off the map? Proof that evolution happens. At least it’s evident in the beauty industry, says Salon Today, as the men’s grooming market is out-pacing the overall beauty market with men spending an astounding $61.3 billion on grooming annually.

Ladies love the new impending trend that men are so readily embracing.  So guys, you might want to keep an eye on what’s happening in the world of mens grooming today.  We will be giving you the ladies perspective on what’s hot and what’s not with grooming for men. Stay tuned or better yet sign up to be notified when our next article is posted in our new category, ‘Just for Men.’  We will keep you abreast on the newest mens grooming services, products, the hottest men’s haircuts and hairdressing salons that assure you of looking and feeling your best . . . all of course, from the ladies perspective.

Of course, there are about as many homecoming hair style options to show you as there are dresses you can choose from, so today let’s focus on easy, casual, hairstyles with headbands.
