Hair Headbands and More Sparkle This Season!

Hair Headbands

Consider Sparkly Hair Headbands for More Bling!

Winter is the time for glitz and glamor. Accessories that sparkle, such as hair headbands, hair pins and clips are just about everywhere you look. Celebrities are dazzling up their hairstyles with these sparkly hair accessories and you can too.

Nicole Kidman Classes Up Her Simple Style

Nicole Kidman turns her simple chignon hairstyle into a glamorous up-do thanks to the help of the sparkly hair pin. You can get a look like this by styling hair into a loose up-do of any style and then adding a hair pin with sparkle like the ones found at Banana Republic.

Hair Headbands

Natalie Portman Wears a Glitzy Hair Headband

Glitzy hair headbands are not a new fashion trend, but one that has stood the test of time. We’ve seen glitzy hair headbands on celebrities and in fashion magazines for quite some time now, so it looks like this hair accessory is here to stay. This hair accessory is easy to find at most retailers now and works well with all different types of hair textures and lengths.

Sparkly hair barrette’s like the one work well with most hairstyles. One of my favorite looks to wear with a hair accessory like this is retro curls. Retro curls like the pin curls of the 40’s and 50’s look beautiful with a deep side part and a sparkly hair barrette on one side. Not sure how to do retro curls on your own hair? Watch this easy how-to video:

Wear sparkly hair headbands and other glitzy hair accessories any time. I’d suggest the sparkly hair headbands for day and other accessories like the barrette’s and hair pins for special occasions.

Bob Hair Styles are Still Hot!

Bob Hair Styles

Bob Hair Styles and Other Celebrity Hair Changes

Have you seen the celebrities who have gone to bob hair Styles recently? There are so many that I’ve begun to think that bob hair styles are the must-have hair style for 2009. I’ve also seen drastic hair color changes on celebrities as well. Some celebs that have drastically changed their look include Salma Hayek and Nicole Richie. These two actresses are both new moms, which I think helps to explain why they chose the hairstyle changes that they did.

Bob Hair styles Look is Fabulous for Celebrity Salma Hayek

Salma Hayek is one celebrity to cut her long hair into a bob hair styles look lately. She debuted her new look last week at a charity gala. The hair style looks fabulous on her and I’m sure is a cinch to do too (which is helpful with a toddler running around). Rumor is that she cut her hair into this bob hair style look for charity.

Salma Hayek proves that you can wear a version of the trendy bob hair style no matter what your hair texture is. Salma has very thick, coarse hair that she typically wears long. The length of her bob is perfect for thicker hair types because it allows easier styling than if the length was shorter. I’d suggest taking your bob hair style longer the thicker your hair is. From experience, it seems easier to style that way. If you have thick hair like hers, you can also request your hairdresser to texturize within the haircut to help the hair lay down nicely.

Nicole Richie Debuts a New Hair Color

Almost as shocking as Salma Hayek’s new bob hair style, is Nicole Richie’s new chestnut hair color. Nicole changed her new hair color to the launch of her House of Harlow 1960 Holiday Collection. Just like Salma, I think that Nicole chose this low-maintenance hair color for the ease of it. With two little ones under two years old, her own clothing and jewelry lines and more, she probably doesn’t have much time for a lot of other things, including high-maintenance hair.

If you are looking to tone down your high-maintenance hair color like Nicole Richie did, you can but make sure you take these precautions. If you are going to color your hair within two shades of your current hue, then you may be able to do-it-yourself. If you are going darker, be sure to pick a shade that has red undertones so that your hair doesn’t turn too ashy. Coloring your hair darker than two shades beyond your current hair color? Then, let a professional hairdresser do the job and save yourself some very probable ‘bad hair days’ to come.

Easy Updos for the Holidays

Easy Updos

Easy Updos are Hot This Season!

Holiday party invites are in the mail, so now is the perfect time to check out some easy updos to wear to your next holiday event. Here are some of my favorites: Get these easy updos with these effortless steps:

  1. Smooth all of your hair back into a low ponytail and secure with a hair band.
  2. Separate your ponytail into two sections.
  3. Twist one section around the hair band and pin the ends under the ponytail.
  4. Repeat with the second section, twisting the hair the opposite way.

Variations: You can leave your bangs out and style them instead of pulling hair all the way back. If you have naturally wavy hair, allow hair to air dry to its naturally wavy state before styling for a different look that is full of texture.

Easy Udos

Easy Updos for Short Hair

If you have short hair, you too can have an easy updo hair style. look this year. Here’s how to get one:

  1. Pull as much hair as you can up and back and secure using a hair band or bobby pins. To get extra lift at the crown, backcomb and lightly comb over to smooth.
  2. Work with your short hair by using accessories such as headbands, decorative bobby pins or barrettes, to style the front and top of your hair.
  3. Use plenty of hairspray to keep your easy hairstyle in place.

Variations: Give your updo hair style a deep side part and secure one side with a sparkly hair pin (one of this season’s hottest hair accessories).

Easy Updos

Easy Updos for Long Hair

If you want the look of a updo, but still want to show off your long hair, why not copy an easy updo look like this and wear your hair partially up? Get this look by following these steps:

  1. Run a smoothing serum through hair before blow drying with a large round brush.
  2. Flat iron hair super straight and sleek.
  3. Pull hair from one side in front of the ear all the way to the back of your head.
  4. Twist the hair and secure it just below your crown, hiding the ends underneath the rest of your hair.

Variations: You can also set your hair in large hot rollers instead of flat ironing for extra body and wave. Pull both sides of hair up, twist and secure with bobby pins. Leave a section from the crown out, lightly backcombing for height, smooth over and mist with a finishing spray.

Take a little time-out and try any of these easy updos or variations beforehand. It will make it even easier to have a little practice under your belt!
