Find Hairdressing Jobs in Exciting Editorial Work!
“Hairdressing Jobs”
Have you ever wondered how to land those hairdressing jobs on red carpet runways, photo shoots and fashion events? These are obviously not the type of hairdressing jobs the majority of hairdressers take on in their career. Nor are these the type of jobs that experienced, highly skilled hairdressers fall into! If you’re looking to hone your skills and find a new creative outlet in your work, consider hairdressing jobs in session styling and editorial work!

Recently, Cyndi asked this question:

I’ve been a hairdresser for over 8 years and I love the hair styling business. I’m looking for new ideas on monetizing my hairdressing skills. My business has been effected by the economy as thousands of others have and I’m trying to come up with new ways to use my skills. I’ve always been interested in fashion and wonder if anyone can tell me how to go about getting into styling hair for runway and photo shoot type of events?

Great question Cyndi

American Salon’s August 2009 issue published a featured article on Giovanni Giuntoli, a Redken session hairdresser, who created hairstyles at the fall/winter ’09 runway shows in New York City for bridal designers. Giovanni has also developed “Tearsheet,” which is a company that teaches hairdressers the skills it takes to create camera ready hairstyles and makeup.

At Tearsheet, they have created educational courses that simulate real photo shoots . . . a sort of red carpet hairstyling education. Taught in New York City, their 3 day courses are complete and limited to just 6 students allowing plenty of one-on-one skills training. Students work side by side with Giovanni and his team completing photo shoots with professional photographers, makeup artists and fashion hairdressers. “Most hairdressers haven’t experienced the dynamics of a shoot,” Giuntoli says. “Our courses teach both hairstyling and on-set behavior.”The student also receives their professional images which can be used to promote their work back at the salon.

Hairdressing jobs that allow you to work with runway and magazine models sounds like a fun way to build your portfolio and business! An additional perk with your education at Tearsheet is after graduating, they say you will have the opportunity to work on shoots with Giuntoli and become part of the “Tearsheet Artistic Team.” The team can work future events like NYC Fashion Week, NYC Bridal Fashion Week, to advertisements, magazines and advertisers look books. Interested? Check out their website.

Fall Hair Care Tips

The season of sun-kissed curls may over, but that doesn’t mean you have to hide under a hat till next summer. Adapt your hair to the fall hair season with these Cold-weather tips.

Forecast: Cold, Windy & Dry

  • Tip~~Keep your hair moisturized.
  • Tip~~Don’t shampoo more than three times a week . . . Over washing will strip you hair’s natural oils giving you limp, dried-out hair.
  • Tip~~When heading outside, protect your hair from harsh winds with silk-lined scarves and hats.

Forecast: Rain or Snow

  • Tip~~Don’t try to fight your natural hair type—Mother Nature will make it too much of a hassle! Instead, slick straight hair back into a ponytail or let natural waves hang loose.
  • Tip~~Seal out moisture with hot styling tools and finish with a mist-shielding spray.
  • Tip~~Avoid mousses, waxes and other heavy products—they can get messy when mixed with moisture.

L’Oreal INOA Hair Color Breakthrough!

INOA Colour

Kim Vo L’Oreal INOA Hair Color

LOreal Hair Color Professional to Release Innovative Hair Color INAO

“L’Oreal INOA Hair
Color Breakthrough”
As I reported a few months back in this article L’Oreal hair color professional brand will come out with a new no-ammonia hair color product early next year. L’Oreal INOA (Innovation No Ammonia) is supposed to revolutionize the hair color world with its ammonia free hair color. Celebrity hairdresser, Kim Vo, recently weighed in about the new L’Oreal INOA hair color line.

Kim, considers himself a €˜watchdog€™ for the hair color industry and had this to say, Traditionally, ammonia has been used to open up the hair cuticle to allow the dye molecules to slide in, which, as we all know, is less than kind to the hair. L’Oreal INOA works in an entirely different way. Although the exact process is proprietary, I can tell you that the product replaces ammonia with monoethanolamine, and then adds an oil-based gel that replicates the natural essential oils in the hair. Just as the hairs own oils penetrate the hair shaft, so does the gel in L’Oreal INOA, allowing the dye to be deposited.

This product will benefit both hairdressers and clients alike because L’Oreal INOA offers a hair color option that is sans ammonia, less irritating and has less of a harsh chemical smell. My thoughts are that L’Oreal INOA hair color, will do very well because it is highly anticipated and highly in need in the professional hair color world.

Kim Vo feels that this new L’Oreal INOA hair color product, may help hair colorists to do their job much better than before and that the hair color industry may never be the same again. He is ready to jump in and try the new L’Oreal INOA hair color line as soon as it is available.

L’Oreal INOA says that INOA will be revolutionary because it will provide up to three levels of lift, which means that if you have a natural shade of medium brown hair, you could easily get to a dark blonde. But another BIG perk is their claim that it gives 100% gray hair coverage . . . all with no ammonia!

Due out January, 2010, I can€™t wait to try the new L’Oreal INOA hair color. I€™ll keep you posted on how it stands up to the salon test!
