Long and Short Back to School Hairstyles

Looking for more back to school hairstyles ideas? Here are some of my favorite back to school hairstyles for obvious reasons . . . they are quick and easy hairstyles when you’ll be needing to fly out the door AND still look great at school!  For the easiest and quickest styling, leave those things that take the most time to the night b4 . . . like shampooing, blow drying, and curling. Once that’s taken care of, the hairstyle you choose to wear for the day will be a cinch! Pony tails, half up-dos, braids and crimps are fast and sweet if your hair is long. For shorter hair, think headbands, sparkly barrettes and a little bit-o-gel and you’ll be set!

French braids have unlimited variations and can be done with one length hair as well as layered hairstyles. It just takes a little practice up front and then you can create as many hairstyles as you can come up with. See more celebrity braids and a great french braiding how-to video that will get you started Oh, and don’t forget about pigtails!

Nicole Ritchie simple boho braided back to school hairstyle

Get this boho look by parting hair down the middle. Take out a one inch section on both sides, a couple of inches back from the hairline. Taking a two-inch section above each ear, clip it out-of-the-way. Brush hair into a low bun, tuck ends under and secure with bobby pins. Braid the one inch sections down and pin at nape or into the bun. Braid the two-inch sections up and over the top of the head and secure with pins. Spray with a shine serum or smooth with a smoothing cream.

Strong “disconnection” short back to school hairstyle

Renowned hairdresser William De Ridder, shows a versatile, strong “disconnection” short back to school hairstyle. We will be seeing more variations of the “disconnection” cut this season. The disconnection makes for an interesting hairstyle and it can be played around with to get many different looks. Don’t forget, headbands and sparkly barrettes to change it up!!

Rhinna gets short back to school hairstyle!

Ok, so maybe Rihanna is wearing a bit more sparkle than you would choose to wear back to school (think prom though . . .) but if it were just a little bit less of it . . . like a barrette, or a sparkly bobby pin or two layered, it would be perfect for changing up your short back to school hairstyle!

  • J.C. Penney Salon Lawsuit –An Ohio woman is suing her local J.C. Penney Salon after an injury sustained from tripping and falling over a black cord in the salon. The Ohio woman says that in May of 2008, she went to get a haircut and the hairdresser directed her to walk to the shampoo bowl where she tripped and fell over the cord. J.C. Penney claims that the woman incurred injuries at her own fault. The woman’s case has been moved to federal court.Yikes!  For our hairdresser readers, I suggest keeping your station and salon neat and orderly to avoid client injury or a lawsuit like this. For our client readers, please pay attention when you are at a salon to make sure the area where you are walking is free of anything that could cause harm. This is a horrible situation for both parties and I hope our readers never find themselves in a circumstance like this one.

  • New “BumpIt” Hair Tool – BumpIts, a ‘hair volumizing insert’ hair tool, has just come into my radar and I’m sure there are some of you out there who will love the idea! Bumpits are a great invention to create volume in the hair by placing this product at your crown, in your updo or wherever you need additional volume. I love the idea of this hairstyle tool because it allows my clients to re-create volumized hairstyles at home without frustration.A set of Bumpits in various sizes can be had for as little as $9.99 at Amazon. If you are hair styling challenged but love the volumized look, the Bumpits hair volumizing insert may be well worth the money. As a matter of fact, I may use these on my own hair to make my life easier as well! You can get more information about Bumpits at their website: www.bumpits.com.

“Dancing with
the Stars Cast”
Whether or not you have the gift of dance in your blood, this show has proven its prime time worthiness with millions of fans.  Loyal followers will be tuning in as the 9th season premieres on ABC, September 21st. I am a great fan of dance and love to kick up my heels just about anytime I can, (mostly when no one else is watching.)  The Dancing With the Stars cast, allows even those of us who just think we can dance, an outlet of sorts.

The dance is just part of the intrigue of the show for me. I’ll be looking at hairstyles and the style interpretations the celebrity hairdresser create for the cast. Not only that, but these hairstyles need to go where no other hairstyles have gone before . . . they are put to the test! So watch for some favorite hairstyles from Dancing With The Stars Casts here and tips on how to create them for yourselves!

Here is the list of the 16 celebrities to entertain us in this years show. It’s quite a diverse group of wanna-be dancers we’ll be watching this fall. Host Tom Bergeron, my favorite host, revealed the group on Good Morning America, today!
