Hairdressers Vote Best Hair Care Products 2009!

I get so excited this time of year to hear what thousands of professional hairdressers have voted as their “favorites” or their choices as the “best hair care products of 2009.” Thanks to BTC, behindthechair.com, we have this most coveted list of hairdressers favorite hair care products as voted for in the 9th annual “hairdresser Choice Awards!”

“Best Hair Care Products”Why is this list so valuable you ask??  How many times have you stood in front of the beauty counter, like deer eyes in headlights, trying to choose between the dizzying choices of hair care products out there? The BTC works for months tallying votes from literally thousands of professionals in the industry to come up with this list of best hair care products from those who use them most!!

I spoke with Angie Manson, from BTC today and she confirmed that they have a membership of over 43,000 professionals and that the voting is open ended . . . there is no list they vote from.

This year the winners of the 9th annual “hairdresser Choice Awards” will be announced on June 7th, in Orlando during one of the biggest hairdressers events of the year. BTC, behindthechair.com, in conjunction with, Premier Orlando-The Premiere International Beauty event, put on one of the biggest shows of the year with over 45,000 hair styling industry types. Hair care professionals are able to learn from the industry’s top leading icons. This years educators include, Robert Cromeans & Angus Mitchell of John Paul Mitchell Systems, Hollywood A-list colorist, Kim Vo, and “What Not to Wear” favorite, Nick Arrojo  just to name a few.

Here is a list of the top five finalists in limited categories. A list of the winners will be following once announced, but this too, is a valuable list to print and file away for your future reference. If you missed last years favorite hair care products . . . here are last years winners.

Up-Do’s are the most frequently requested wedding hairstyles

The most common of wedding hairstyles requested in our salon, is an elegant up-do. My guess is this is because an elegant up-do, makes a statement that this is not just any ordinary day! An up-do for your wedding is the perfect choice to show off beautiful jewelry, the neckline of your dress, toned arms and, of course, your wedding day glow. So, for those of you who have chosen to go with up-do’s for your wedding hairstyles, here are some things I suggest to make your wedding hairstyles picture perfect.

If your bridal gown is ornate, you can pick from any number of wedding hairstyles or up-do’s that are equally as elaborate. You can choose a complex up-do, or you can add to a simple up-do by using beautiful hair accessories that sparkle and shine. The key to any great wedding is in the coordinating. Your wedding hairstyle, dress, shoes and even location should all coordinate to flow smoothly together. Keep this tip in mind when planning out your big day.

A simple chignon works perfectly if you want the formality of an up-do without all the fuss

Searching for a wedding hairstyle that is a bit simpler? Try a loose chignon that screams simple elegance. A loose chignon would go perfectly with an outdoor ceremony or a dress with minimal embellishments. Simple chignons work great for both naturally curly girls and those with straight strands too because you can work with your natural hair when it comes to these types of wedding hairstyles.

Retro wedding hairstyles are making a comeback

This year we’ve seen more celebrities walking the red carpet wearing these hairstyles reminiscent of the “flapper” era, and that has influenced many ‘brides to be’ to set the tone back to this romantic era. Retro wedding hairstyles are in style this season! Think finger waves and pin curl styles. If your wedding will incorporate a hairstyle reminiscent of the past, these types of retro looking wedding hairstyles, are fabulous and perfect for you! Your job will be to find a hairdresser/salon, that specializes in hairstyles from this era. To make it flow, make sure the entire wedding party, guys too, get’s the look!

Choosing the right up-do for your wedding hairstyle, is a great way to set the formality and tone of your wedding incorporating the right hair accessory into your up-do is also important in making your wedding hairstyle uniquely your own. Fresh flowers, headbands, sparkly hair pins, barrettes, ribbons, bows , the list goes on and on. If you haven’t found what you’re looking for yet, try for some great ideas!

Derby Hats Hair: A Hair Do or Don’t?

Sure the Kentucky Derby is a horse race, but when I think of the Kentucky Derby I think of all those Kentucky Derby hats! So what do I think of all those women covering up their hair with these extravagant and flamboyant Derby hats? I think it’s a definite do . . . depending on the situation, event and what your hair looks like under that hat, of course.

Here are my rules on Derby hats and Wedding Hats:

Derby Hats Hair Rule #1

The hat must fit the event. If, say lucky you are going to the Kentucky Derby, by all means wear a humongous, gaudy Derby hat. And if you are headed to the baseball field to take in a game, feel free to don a baseball cap. But please do not just put any old hat on to cover up undone hair. Derby Hat Hair Rule #2

Your hair must still be styled prior to adding the derby hat. Think of the Derby or wedding hat as an accessory. Just like you wouldn’t wake up with bed head and stick a sparkly barrette in the side of your hair, you shouldn’t just throw a derby hat over bad hair (for the Kentucky Derby or anywhere else for that matter). Style your hair as you would normally and then add the hat after the fact.

Derby Hats Hair Rule #3

Please, please, please be sure to match your hat, your hair and your outfit. You wouldn’t wear your hair thrown back into a ponytail when you are all dressed up for an important event, instead, you’d coordinate your hair style to enhance your outfit. Do the same with coordinating your Derby hat or wedding hat and your dress and your off to the races!

Overall, a Derby hat can be a big hit when done right. A great looking hat can’t help but draw lots of stares. Now, use these rules to be sure when all eyes are on you, that your hat, your hair and your total look is all attuned.
