Hair Protein Treatment Leads to Healthy Hair

Hair Protein Treatment

Hair Protein Treatments Restore, Strengthen and Recondition

Who hasn’t had dried out hair at one time or another? But, if you’ve struggled with the old tried and true remedies and your hair still doesn’t look and feel healthy . . . try a hair protein treatment.

Hair can get to feeling and looking dry for several reasons. I won’t bore you again with the list of sins we all commit on our hair in our never-ending attempts to wrestle them into submission. BUT, have you ever tried repairing the damage you’ve inflicted by doing a hair protein treatment?

One of the main reasons hair becomes so dry and straw-like is because of over-processing. To keep your hair healthy, try periodic hair protein treatments as well as deep conditioning treatments. Hair Protein treatments restore, strengthen and recondition the hair, where deep conditioning treatments are formulated to add lots of added moisture deep into the hair shaft. Both treatments I highly recommend to keep dry, damaged hair healthy and beautiful.

If you have your hair colored, high lighted, permed or some other type of chemical treatment, there are a few things you should know. Hair is mostly made up of protein. Any time you have your hair chemically treated, whether it is by high lighting, hair-coloring, perming or any other type of chemical treatment, you are pulling protein out of the hair, depleting it of strength and structure.

The first time you have your hair chemically treated, about 15 to 20% of the protein may be lost. The next time you chemically service your hair, additional protein is lost. Over time your hair starts to feel and look dry because of all the chemical processing it has endured. A hair protein treatment” is a great way to restore over-processed hair by strengthening it and getting it back into good condition again.

So many of my clients, when we first discuss hair treatments, think that they will get the same result if they go to their local Sally Beauty Supply and buy any type protein pack to treat their hair. As you know, as with any other hair care product, not all products are the same. So buying any brand and throwing it in your hair may not give you the results that I know a good hair protein treatment can do for you.

Hair Protein Treatment

I recommend a professional hair protein treatment either done in the salon, or if you want to go more economical, purchase a product like “Redken Deep Fuel” hair protein treatment. You can get it from your hairdresser,or at a salon like Ulta. This product comes with 5 tubes in the box. Depending on the density of your hair you may use either a half or a whole tube in the treatment.

I recommend to all of my chemically serviced clients to take a box of this “Redken Deep Fuel” home after having their hair high lighted, etc. After shampooing, rinse and put the Redken Deep Fuel on your hair. Leave on for about 5 minutes while in the shower (I always do this on a day when I am shaving my legs, so I can multi-task), then rinse and do your conditioner.

I think the reason that Redken’s Deep Fuel works better than some other over-the counter versions, is that it penetrates deeper into the hair-shaft rather than just sitting on the outer cuticle layer of the hair. If you do this every other day for a couple of weeks, if your hair is extremely dry, or a couple of times per week after a chemical service, you will be AMAZED at the results you will get . . . I guarantee it!

It’s summer ladies and time to . . . let it shine, let it shine, let it shine!

How Often Should You Switch Shampoo?

Hair Care Products

.

.

Changing Shampoo Brands Often is an Urban Myth

Here is another question I received from a student in my class Finding the Right Hairstyle for You!, I’m sure many of you question this as well:

I have heard it is important to switch the brand of shampoo you use on your hair. Is there any reason to believe this?

,,

I’m not sure how this myth got started but my guess is it started around the time a gazillion different types of shampoos became available on the market.

“Your hair will let you know when it’s time”

It’s not important that you switch any shampoo that is working well in your hair. Your hair does not become immune to the cleansing capabilities of a shampoo because of the frequency of its use.

That doesn’t mean you won’t need to change shampoos periodically however. If you pay attention to what’s happening to your hair and what changes may be going on in your lifestyle, you’ll know when it’s time to change your shampoo.

Here are some tips to pay attention to:

  • If you color, perm, straighten or receive any chemical treatment on your hair, switch to a shampoo formulated for your chemically treated hair.

  • If your hair starts to require more frequent shampooings, becomes more oily because of a lifestyle change, a gentle daily shampoo will be easiest on your hair.

  • If your hair becomes drier due to sun exposure or over use of heat, switch to a moisturizing shampoo and conditioner. It will restore lost moisture, strengthen the hair and increase elasticity.

  • If you swim in a pool, or in salt water, use a shampoo formulated for swimmers. It will help prevent dry brittle hair and increase shine and body.

  • If you use products on your hair, i.e. conditioner, spray, gel, root lifter, etc. use a clarifying shampoo. I think almost everyone can benefit from using a clarifying shampoo periodically. It will cut through product buildup which dulls and flattens hair, and increase its body, fullness and shine.

  • If you have excessive oiliness on hair and scalp, select a balancing shampoo, or a shampoo formulated just for oily hair.

  • If you want more volume to your hair, choose a volumizing shampoo.

I’m hesitant to list specific products in every case because there are so many good products available and it becomes a matter of preference. Here are some of my favorite manufacturers, both professional and over the counter. Aveda, Matrix, Graham Webb, Farouk, Bumble & Bumble, Paul Mitchell, Kiehl’s, Pantene Pro-V, Redken, Nexxus, Aussie, Neutrogena most are available at Ebay’s Shampoo Section or on Folica’s website.

Fantasia Rocks in Red Hair

Fantasia Red Hair

Fantasia’s Red Hair Color Steals the Show on American Idol!

“Fantasia Red Hair on American Idol”

You can’t say American Idol’s season 3 winner, Fantasia, is boring! She came out rockin on last nights show and shook the crowd into a heat! She showcased her funky new release, “Bore Me” in her hot new red hair color . . . hmmmm . . . let’s call it, brilliant, beaming, bright but mostly not boring red.

What Fantasia’s promoters know all too well, is that if you UP the WOW factor in a celebrities hair style, dress and performance, you’ve now got everyones attention . . . including Simon Cowell’s in this case. If you somehow missed her performance check it out here:

So if you are of the type who likes to make a statement from time to time, all you need to do is change your hair color. It needn’t be as drastic as Fantasia’s firey red hair color, to get you noticed. Yet, if you’re nature is wild, carefree, artistic or of that sort, there are plenty of new brilliantly bright hair colors out there to choose from in pinks, blues, violets, reds, yellows and even green!

I predict we will be seeing more of these ‘not boring’ hair colors showing up this summer. Ahh, as the schools let go of the young and the restless, I presume we will be viewing an amplitude of individualism cropping up all around us and not just in the emo hairstyles.
